Paper Marbling and Book Binding

  • Museum of Human Achievement 3600 Lyons Road Austin, TX, 78702 United States (map)

Learn the basics of paper marbling and bookbinding!

In this workshop you will learn how to create your own unique marbled papers and then transform one into your own sketchbook or journal. We will dive into the history of paper marbling, take a close look at the materials and process of the practice, learn specific techniques used by the masters, have fun experimenting on your own, and learn some basic forms of book binding in order to create our journals. All the materials will be included, and you’ll leave with a handmade journal and a list of materials you would need to continue marbling at home.

Ellyn is a queer artist and educator from Elgin, TX. She believes that art is a powerful way to better understand ourselves, build community, deepen our understandings of social issues, and empower youth to make change. Though she has worked in many different mediums, paper marbling has captured her heart with its therapeutic nature, rich history, and for the joy it brings to people when they make a piece for the first time.

**NOTE: This event is designed exclusively for women and non-binary people. This includes women of color, trans/queer/cis women and gender non-conforming folks.
