Natural Forces

Now Accepting Installation Design Submissions!

On February 3rd and 4th, HIVE will host NATURAL FORCES, an experiential art installation, at the Museum of Human Achievement. The installation will be a collaboration of local women and non-binary artists that explores the states and forces that push and pull us, internally and within the larger context of society. What does "Natural Forces" mean to you?

This is an event where visitors  roam the space visiting different artist pods (enclosed art installation spaces). Artists will create their own space (tent, fort, tunnel...) and transform it in their exploration of theme. At our initial installation meeting some potential ideas for natural forces included regrowth, decay, death, natural disasters, binaries and border crossings, time, connections and conductivity, and inner strength.

Selected artists will be given a $300 stipend for supplies and labor as well as community support. Installations will be selected based on design, originality, and feasibility. Submissions are due on January 1st, 2018, and decisions will be made by January 5th.

This project will be supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department and HIVE is a member of the Austin Creative Alliance.
